BOTOX For Sweating-Proven, Reliable, Effective

If you find yourself sweating profusely when others are not, avoiding social gatherings in fear of breaking out into a sweat, and have tried every antiperspirant on the market with no success, you probably suffer from excessive sweating, a medical condition called hyperhidrosis.

Hyperhidrosis affects close to 1 million Canadians, and when left untreated, can cripple your ability to have a normal life. The onset of excessive sweating unexpectedly happens anytime and anywhere, whether you are hot or cold.

The cause is not known, however, the root of the problem stems from the sweat glands producing much more sweat than that required to keep the body at a normal temperature.

Although sweating is a natural bodily function required to manage body temperature, excessive sweating is not. If this sounds like you, there is a solution – BOTOX® for sweating.

Isn’t BOTOX® Used To Remove Wrinkles?

Absolutely! BOTOX® is the most common, and most effective procedure in the World for the treatment of wrinkles and fine lines on the face. Like most highly effective medical treatments, researchers have identified other areas where the BOTOX® can benefit patients.

Some of the other areas where BOTOX® has proven to be effective include crossed eyes, excessive blinking, overactive bladders, muscles spasms, tension headaches, and of course, the treatment of excessive sweating. In fact, BOTOX® for sweating was approved by the FDA in 2004, and since that time has helped hundreds of thousands of people eliminate the frustrating condition of hyperhidrosis in a safe effective manner.

How Does BOTOX® For Sweating Work

BOTOX® when used to eliminate excessive sweating, works much the same as BOTOX® for lines and wrinkles. Instead of blocking the signals of the nerves which control muscle contractions,  BOTOX® for sweating works by blocking the signals from the nerves which trigger the sweat glands. Individuals with hyperhidrosis have overly active sweat glands, and by inhibiting the nerve, sweating in the area is stopped.

Because the body has approximately 2 million sweat glands, and only about 2% are located in the underarm area, BOTOX® injections do not have a great effect on the ability of the body to cool itself. Therefore, disabling the functionality of the sweat gland is entirely safe.

What Does The Procedure Involve?

The BOTOX® procedure for sweating is a minimally invasive, non-surgical procedure that is performed in the comfort of the YourDerm.ca Laser & Esthetic clinic.

Prior to the treatment, the patient is expected to shave the underarm hairs in order to make the treatment area more accessible. A numbing cream may or may not be applied depending on the patient. The procedure will generally take between 30 and 45 minutes with most patients reporting little to no discomfort.

A tiny needle is used to deliver BOTOX® injections directly into the underarm area. The process is repeated until the entire area is covered. Ice packs are then applied for a few minutes to reduce the potential of swelling, and the patient is free to get on with their day.

How Long Do Results Last?

The response to BOTOX® treatments varies from patient to patient, however, our patients typically begin seeing results within 2 to 4 days after the treatment and see maximum dryness in approximately 2 weeks.

The BOTOX® procedure for sweating will typically last for 6 -7 months. Without follow-up treatments, the sweat glands will again become active and excessive sweating will reoccur. In order to maintain the initial result, we recommend scheduling follow-up treatments every 6 months.

Am I A Candidate For A BOTOX® Treatment?

In order to determine whether you are a candidate for the BOTOX® for the excessive sweating procedure, we suggest that you be assessed by one of our BOTOX®  specialists who can review your history and make a recommendation as to the best treatment plan for you.

However, if you answer yes to any of the following questions, it is highly likely that you are a candidate and may have hyperhidrosis.
